Casino de Monte-Carlo

Dress code, entry, tickets and our tips for experiencing Monaco's icon.

A Belle Époque icon, not just a casino

Designed by Charles Garnier — architect of the Paris Opera — the Casino de Monte-Carlo has anchored the Place du Casino since 1863. Even if you never place a bet, the gilded Salle Europe, the atrium of marble columns and the terrace over the Mediterranean are worth the visit on their own.

Dress code

Smart, elegant attire is expected, and enforced more strictly in the evening and in the private gaming rooms.

  • Daytime visits: neat, smart-casual is generally fine. No beachwear, shorts, flip-flops or sportswear.
  • Evening / private rooms: a jacket is expected for men; many regulars wear a tie. Trainers and shorts are refused.

Specific requirements change by season and room — confirm current rules with the Casino before a special evening (to be confirmed).

Entry, age and tickets

  • Minimum age: 18. A valid passport or ID is required and checked at the door — bring it.
  • There is a paid entrance fee to access the gaming rooms; daytime "tourist" visits of the salons are available before gaming hours.
  • Hours vary by room and season — the gaming rooms open in the afternoon and run late.

Exact fees and opening times shift through the year; check the official site before you go (to be confirmed).

Insider tips

  • Arrive in the late afternoon to tour the rooms in daylight, then stay as the crowd dresses up for the evening.
  • Photography is restricted inside the gaming rooms — be discreet.
  • The square outside is one of the great free shows in Monaco: park your supercar-watching at the Café de Paris terrace.
  • Pair the Casino with dinner at Le Louis XV or a drink at the Hôtel de Paris next door.
