Yacht Charter in Monaco: A Beginner's Guide
How yacht charter actually works on the Riviera — the types, the costs, the etiquette, and how to book your first day on the water.

Chartering a yacht on the Riviera is more accessible than it looks — you don't need to own one, or know how to sail.
The main options
- Shared boat tours — join a small group for a few hours; the easiest, most affordable start.
- Day charter (skippered) — a private boat and crew for the day, with stops to swim and lunch at anchor.
- Crewed yacht charter — a multi-day charter with a full crew, for a holiday afloat.
You only need a licence for some smaller "bareboat" rentals; for everything else, a professional skipper handles the boat.
What it costs
Shared tours start modestly per person. Private day charters are priced per boat and vary widely with size and season; crewed superyachts run by the week. Fuel, food and the crew tip are usually extra.
Etiquette and tips
Soft-soled or bare feet on deck, bring a light layer for the breeze, and book ahead in July–August. June and September offer warm water and calmer seas.
